Scout Day at Boreal Ski Resort

Scouts can try their hand (or should I say feet) at skiing or snowboarding on Saturday, February 25th, at Boreal Ski Resort. The resort will open their runs for Scout Day and discounted prices on lift tickets, rentals, and lessons. It is a wonderful way of trying out these winter sports. Camp Winton Deposit is Due

Scouts planning on attending Camp Winton during the summer of 2012 should make a deposit of $50.00 to hold your spot. Troop 380 will be attending Camp Winton on July 15-21, 2012. Camp Winton is located on beautiful Bear River Reservoir on Highway 88, East of Jackson. Camp Winton offers and outstanding waterfront and activities. We have selected Camp Winton as our primary camp for the summer. Total cost of the week stay is $310.00. Please see Dave or Johnie for more information.

Klondike Derby: February 17-19, 2012

The Capital City District Klondike Derby will be held at Cisco Grove on the weekend of February 17-19, 2012. We will prepare for the Klondike at the troop meetings prior to the event. Get your snowshoes ready and dress warm. See Michael Kuykendall for details. $15.00 for food.

Golden Empire Council Dinner: Saturday, February 11, 2012

Troop 380 Scouters, Michael Kuykendall and Joanie Stretars will be presented the highest honor to be presented a volunteer at the Golden Empire Council Dinner, on Saturday, Feburay 11, 2012. The dinner will be at the California State University, Sacramento Student Union Ballroom at 5:45 PM. Please consider attending to support these two outstanding scouters. Klondike Derby - February 17-19, 2012

Troop 380 will attend the Klondike Derby at Cisco Grove on the weekend of February 17-19, 2012. It should be a great weekend for fun in the snow. We will race in the great sledge race, snow shoe races, and a lot more winter fun. Permission Slips are available on the troop website. Cost for the weekend is $15.00. National Jamboree 2013

Are you interested in finding out more about the biggest event for the Boy Scouts of America? If you would like to be part of the 2013 National Jamboree at the Summit, West Virginia you should attend the National Jamboree Rally at Edward Harris, Jr. Middle School on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at 9:00 AM. Find out about the two options (tour and Jamboree or Jamboree only), finances, financial assistance, being part of a National Jamboree Troop and a lot more. Parents should attend with there scouts. Scout Expo Planning Committee Meeting

If you would like to be part of the Planning Team for the 2012 Scout Expo you are invited to attend the Scout Expo Committee Meeting on Thursday, January 26, 2012, at Camp Pollock. The meeting starts at 7:00 PM. Class A uniforms are encouraged.

University of Scouting

The Golden Empire Council will be hosting University of Scouting at my school on Saturday, January 21, 2012. This all day training offers a huge choice of training topics for adult leaders. The $20.00 registration fee covers the cost of 6 classes, a patch, and lunch. Don't miss out. Register by Monday, January 16th or register at the door. Remember if you register at the door you might not get lunch or your first choice of classes. Register on the council website at www.gec-bsa.org.

Klondike Derby Rescheduled

The Capital City/Sierra Gateway District Klondike Derby has been postponed until the weekend of February 17-19, 2012. The Klondike organizing committee wanted to make sure there was plenty of snow for the event. Please see Mike Kuykendall for more information about this great event.

Klondike Derby

Mike Kuykendall will lead the troop at the Capital City/Sierra Gateway Klondike Derby at Cisco Grove on the weekend of January 27-29, 2012.  We hope we get some snow!  This camporee in the snow has a tropical theme.  Permission slips are available on the website.  

Grover Hot Springs Camp Out

Troop 380 will travel to Grover Hot Springs State Park on January 14-15, 2012. Grover Hot Springs is near Markleeville on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevada. Scouts will have the opportunity to earn the Order of the Ice Cube in the cool pool at the hot springs and then warm up in the hot springs pool. See Floyd Brown for details. Winter Merit Badges Offerings

Bob Williamson has announced the new Winter Merit Badges. Beginning with the January 9th meeting the following merit badges will be offered: Citizenship in the Nation with Bob Williamson and Jim Buell; Personal Fitness with Jon Traum; Insect Study with Moorea Richardson; and Electronics with Joseph Jacobs. Merit Badge sessions begin at 6:30 PM. The dates for the merit badges sessions are January 9 and 23, February 6 and 13, and March 5 and 12.

Troop 380 will pick up your E-Waste and Christmas Tree

Our Troop will pick up your E-waste and/or Christmas Tree on Saturday, December 31st or Saturday, January 7th. Give us a call at 363-0380 and leave your information and we will schedule a pick up. Make sure you leave your street address, phone number, and the date you would like you tree or e-waste picked up. We are accepting a $10.00 donation to help scouts attend camp.

Mike Kuykendall and Joanie Stretars Honored with Silver Beaver

Joanie Stretars and Michael Kuykendall have been selected to receive the coveted Silver Beaver Award at the Golden Empire Council Dinner on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at California State University.  Please join everyone in congratulating Joanie and Michael on being honored with the highest award presented by a council for a volunteer.  If you plan on attending the Council Dinner, please let Chris Ishikawa know if you would like to register.  

White Elephant Party

The Troop's Annual Parent and Leader White Elephant Party will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2012, at the home of Peter and Sherri Brown, at 7:00 PM. All parents are encouraged to attend. It is a great time. Bring a white elephant gift, your favorite appetizer, and if you have special beverage you like, bring that along too. The committee will provide some beverages. Bowling Night: December 26th

The Troop's annual bowling night will be on Monday, December 26th, at Strikes Bowling Center in Elk Grove. We will meet at 5:30 PM and start bowling at 6:00 PM sharp. Cost is $9.00 which includes: 90 minuts of bowling, shoe rental, pizza, soda, game tokens, and lots of fun. All family members are welcome. See Dajion or Mary Brown for more information.

Mt. Tamalpais Hike Rescheduled

We have rescheduled the Mt. Tamalpais Hike for Saturday, December 18, 2011. We will gather a Sequoia School at 7:30 AM and head for Mt. Tamalpais. Once again bring water, day pack, a hearty lunch, chapstick, raingear, sunscreen, and a good attitude. We will return home at about 5:30 PM. See Charles Potter for details. Placerville Camp Service Project

Troop 380 Scouts and Adults can help out at the newest Golden Empire Council near Placerville on Saturday, December 17th. We'll gather at 8:30 AM and travel up to the camp and work for two hours. We'll stop on the way home at a fast food establishment and be home by 2:00 PM. See Dave at the meeting for details.

Bowling Night - December 26th

Troop 380 is hosting its annual Bowling Night at Strikes in Elk Grove, on Monday, December 26th, at 6:00 PM. The fee for the evening is $9.00, which includes, shoes, one and a half hours of bowling, game tokens, pizza, and soda. That is quite a deal. Sign up for your lane at the Troop Meeting. We will practice bowling on Monday, December 19th at the Troop Meeting.

Capital City District Holiday Roundtable - December 8, 2011

Join with the wonderful Scouters from throughout the Capital City District on Thursday, December 8, 2011, at 7:30 PM. Roundtable is held at the LDS Church on Wisseman Drive off of Folsom Blvd. Ralph Merrill and Norm Parker will be presenting a special session on "Hobbies." Bring a dessert to share for the holiday season. Troop 380 usually has a large contingent of Scouters participating in Roundtable so you won't be alone.

Mt. Tamalpais - Rim of the Bay Hike

The troop will gather at 7:00 AM at Sequoia School on Saturday, December 3, 2011 for their adventure to the top of Mt. Tamalpais. This is one of the the six Rim of the Bay Hikes with a fantastic view of the San Francisco Bay. Scouts and hikers should bring water, a energy-filled lunch, sunscreen, chapstick, and a good daypack. Winter Court of Honor and Dinner: Monday, December 5, 2011

You are invited to celebrate the holiday season with Troop 380 on Monday, December 5, 2011, at 6:00 PM. Join us for a catered Italian dinner. Life to Eagle Scout Seminar

Salt Point and Fort Ross Camp Out: November 11-13, 2011

Troop 380 will stay overnight in historical Fort Ross on the California Coast on Veteran's Day weekend, November 11-13, 2011.  After the stay at the Fort the troop will move to Salt Point State Park. Scouts will also be able to work on the Geology Merit Badge.  Cost for the weekend trip is $20.00.  Please see Maryann Evans for more information.


Scouting for Food

Millions of Americans go hungry everyday. The Boy Scouts of America assist those less fortunate by participating in a project called Scouting for Food. On Saturday, November 5th Troop 380 will gather at the Save Mart Shopping Center on Kiefer Blvd. We will be joined by Pack and Crew 380. We will collect food at local merchants and go door to door to collect food. The Troop will provide a breakfast snack and lunch. Please wear your Class A Uniform. If your troop is not participating in Scouting for Food, feel free to join us. Let us know you plan on joining us please let us know on this blog. We want to plan for lunch.

Englebright Lake Trip: October 29-30, 2011

Troop 380 will travel to Englebright Lake on October 29-30, 2011. Scouts will have a choice of hiking or canoeing into the campsite on the lake. The cost of the trip is $12.00. Please contact Dave Ishikawa if you want to participate in the trip. Permission Slips are available on the Troop Website.

Troop 380 Parents and Leaders meet on the last Tuesday of each month to discuss how to support the troop and scouts. Safetyville Halloween Haunt: October 22, 2011

Safetyville's annual Halloween Haunt will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2011. Troop 380 has been asked to help out, but the new organizers have asked for 15 year olds and older. Crew 380 has come to the rescue and will be providing supervision for the parking lot. If you are an older scout and would like to help out, please let Mark Stretars know. Hours for the haunt are 12:00 noon to 5:00 PM. Trick or Treat!

Pack 380 Haunted House

Troop 380 has been invited by Cubmaster, Johnie Pennington, to their October 21st Pack Meeting, at Sequoia Elementary School.  Scouts have been asked to set up a haunted house for the pack.  Show up in your best Halloween Costume on Friday night at 6:30 PM.   Get ready for a scary night.

 

 


 

Webelos Woods

Webelos Woods is coming up this weekend at Camp Pollock. Many of you can remember attending Webelos Woods as a Cub Scout. Now it is your time to give back, by serving on the staff on September 30-October 2, 2011. We will be preparing for the weekend at the September 26th Troop Meeting. Please sign up at the meeting. Don't forget to sign up with Chris at the Troop Meeting. You will receive a Staff Hat for the weekend. All meals are included. Scouts, parents, or leaders can sign up for all or a portion of the weekend.

Troop 380 Halloween Season

Troop 380 will be providing service to our community during the Halloween season. Pack 380 Cubmaster, Johnie Pennington, has requested the troop provide a Haunted House for the Pack on the night of Friday, October 21, 2011, at Sequoia Elementary School. On the next day, Saturday, October 22 the Troop has been invited to be the service troop at Safetyville's Halloween Haunt. Safetyville is located on Bradshaw Road. Let's get that Halloween Spirit!

Fall Court of Honor

Our Fall Court of Honor is on Monday, September 19, 2011, at 6:30 PM. We will be presenting awards for Golf Night, Camp Chawanakee, Camp Marin-Sierra, Yosemite, Crew awards, attendance, leadership, merit badges, and rank. It will be a busy night. We will top off the evening with Root Beer Floats for the whole family.

Each year at this time we break out many fund raisers so you can go to summer camp, National Jamboree, and on our Yellowstone Road Trip next summer. We are currently selling magazines and Trails End Popcorn. We have site sales for popcorn and take orders for popcorn begin on Monday, September 19, 2011. We are also wrapping up our Bar B Que Sauce sales. Use every opportunity to earn your own way to our many activities. Yosemite Service Project

Troop 380 has been selected to perform a Service Project at Yosemite National Park on the Labor Day Weekend, September 2-5, 2011. We will camp at Yellow Pines Campground and perform a service project on Saturday. Scouts may opt to participate in a special overnight backpacking trip on the Pohono Trail and view Yosemite's views from the Southern rim of the valley. Troop 380 is now selling their own label of Bar B Que Sauces and Marinades as a fund raiser. We have already sold over 600 bottles of sauce. We now have Smooth and Spicy Bar B Que Sauce, Spicy Chipotle Bar B Ques Sauce, Sizzlin' Habanero Bar B Que Sauce, and Zindandel Tri-tip Marinade. The 13 ounce bottles sell for $5.00. The order form is now available on line.

Activities for the weekend include a hike to Devil's Peak, overnighter at Long Lake, campfire, rifle shooting, interfaith service, Pioneering Merit Badge, Basketry Merit Badge, Leatherworking Merit Badge, and Fish and Wildlife Merit Badge, fantastic food and much more. Reserve August 19-21, 2011 for this special weekend. All Scouts must have a medical on file with their unit to particpate. The fee for the weekend is $20.00 which includes five meals and a cracker barrel.

Troop 380 will be planning the 2012 program calendar at a special PLC on Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at 6:00 PM, at the Emmanuel Baptist Church. All patrol leaders, assistant patrol leaders, and leadership are invited. Crew 380 will also be on hand. Please bring $2.00 for pizza and soda. Class A Uniforms are requested. Adult leaders are encouraged to attend, but remember it is a youth planned calendar.

SMUD PIcnic

Our biggest fund raising event of the year, the SMUD Employee Association Picnic, will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2011.  Parents and Scouts can sign up at the Troop Meetings before the event.  We will need all families to participate in this huge project.  Please see LaMar Mitchell, Don Dier, or Zenaida Kamine for details.

Camp Marin Sierra: July 10-16, 2011

A small contingent of Troop 380 Scouts will be attending Camp Marin Sierra on July 10-16, 2011.  There are still openings for the week at camp.  If you would like to attend, please contact me or Erik Carlson.  Camp Marin Sierra is located near Yuba Gap on I-80 in the Sierra Nevada.  

Golf Night and Practice: June 27 and 29, 2011

Our annual Troop 380 Golf Night will be on Wednesday, June 29, 2011. The first tee time will be at 5:00 PM. We will meet at the Bradshaw Ranch Golf Center on Bradshaw Road between Florin and Gerber. Cost for the event is $6.00 for Troop 380 Scouts and $8.00 for all others. We will also provide hot dogs when you have completed the course. You must be in attendance at the Monday, June 27th Troop Meeting for the practice and orientation session. We have golf balls and short irons for Scouts if you do not have clubs. Troop Parent Meeting: June 28, 2011

Our monthly Troop Parent Meeting will be on Tuesday, June 28,2011. Check my email for location, as we may be changing meeting place for this meeting. The meeting time will remain at 7:30 PM. All parents of Troop 380 Scouts and Leaders are highly encouraged to participate in the Troop Parent Meetings. We discuss how you can support the troop and your son, fund raising, future events, and evaluate past events. Please note we will not be having a Troop Parent Meeting in July, because of the World Jamboree and the Crew Trip to Florida Sea Base. Please contact Zenaida Kamine, Troop Committee Chairperson, if you have any questions concerning the Troop Committee.

Golf Night: June 27, 2011

Our annual Troop 380 Golf Night will be on Wednesday, June 29, 2011. The first tee time will be at 5:00 PM. We will meet at the Bradshaw Ranch Golf Center on Bradshaw Road between Florin and Gerber. Cost for the event is $6.00 for Troop 380 Scouts and $8.00 for all others. We will also provide hot dogs when you have completed the course. You must be in attendance at the Monday, June 27th Troop Meeting for the practice and orientation session. We have golf balls and short irons for Scouts if you do not have clubs. Plan on Attending the June 13th Meeting

I made a mistake on the SM Blog. I want everyone to come to the June 13th meeting for last minute summer camp details. We will not have a Troop Meeting on June 20th. Most of the Troop will be at Summer Camp.

Camp Chawanakee: June 19-25, 2011

Please attend June 20th Troop Meeting to receive last minute Camp Instructions. All forms and fees are due by Monday night. Please take care of all financial obligations by this evening. We are excited about Camp. The snow is clearning and we'll have a great time at camp.

Troop Meeting; Monday June 20th - Last Meeting Before Camp and Last Merit Badge Session

The Troop Meeting on Monday, June 20th, is an important eveing. We will be conducting our final merit badge session for the spring at 6:30 PM. We will be going over last minute preparation for Camp Chawanakee. Bring in your permission slips, medicals, and medication forms. All fees should be finalized. Believe it or not we still have openings for camp. Class A Uniforms. See you at the meeting.

Capital City District Roundtable: Thursday, June 9, 2011

Come join the fun, fellowship, and information at the monthly district roundtable. Roundtable invites all adult leaders and parents to this informative gathering at the LDS Church at 3001 Wisseman Drive. The fun starts at 7:00 PM. The Order of the Arrow will be selling Root Beer Float to raise money for the chapter. By the way the chapter meets at 6:00 PM on the same evenings. Come meet Scouters from all over the Capital City District. See you at Roundtable!

Camp Forms Due: Medicals, Permission Slips and Medication

All Summer Camp forms are now due. Please bring your forms to the Court of Honor on Monday, June 6, 2011 or to the troop meeting on Monday, June 13, 2011. All Scouts and leaders must turn in their medical form, permission slip, and medication form as soon as possible. Forms were passed out at the mandatory Summer Camp meeting back on May 16th. Please download the medical form off the troop website or Sequoia Council website.

New Location for Summer Court of Honor: June 6th

The Troop Parent Committee has decided to move the Summer Court of Honor to Edward Harris,Jr. Middle School, at 8691 Power Inn Road, in Elk Grove (95624). The school is located just south of Lowes on Calvin Road (near Highway 99 south). We will start at 6:30 PM. Please RSVP Dave Ishikawa at sm-380@comcast.net. Summer Court of Honor: Monday, June 6, 2011

Troop and Crew 380 will host its Summer Court of Honor on Monday, June 6, 2011, at 6:30 PM. Something new this year will be a Taco Bar. All families are asked to bring ingredients for tacos. The whole family is welcome to attend. Please contact Sally Shaw at fsgshaw@frontiernet.net if you have any questions about the food. The Court of Honor program will feature awards and recognition including the Spring Camporee, Mission Peak, Mt. Diablo, Malakoff Diggins, merit badges, leadership, Honor Scout, attendance, and badges of rank. Don Dier is preparing a photo show as always. Don't forget to bring the family.

Mt. Diablo Camp Out and Hike

Both Troop and Crew 380 will be participating in the Camp Out and Hike to Mt. Diablo State Park. The Crew will depart on Friday, June 3rd. The Troop will join them on the Saturday, June 4th. Joseph Jacobs and Peter Brown will be leading the Troop portion of the activity and LaMar Mitchell will be handling the Crew. Saturday will feature a Rim of the Bay hike to the top of Mt. Diablo. Mt. Diablo is one Northern California's most significant landmarks since it is visible from all over the Bay Area and Central Valley. On Sunday, the Crew and Troop will break camp and head to the Jelly Belly Factory for lunch and a tour of this famous candy factory.

Assistant Senior Patrol Leader Elections

Elections for Assistant Senior Patrol Leader will be held on Monday, May 23, 2011. If you would like to be part of the Troop 380 leadership team, please call Dave and declare your candidacy. Candidates and their parents should meet with Dave at 6:15 PM on Monday before the meeting. Scouts must be 1st Class and have Scoutmaster approval.

Mt. Diablo Camp Out and Hike

Troop 380 will camp out at Mt. Diablo State Park on June 4-5, 2011. On Saturday, June 4th we will hike to the top of Mt. Diablo. Crew 380 will be hosting the camp out and will be feeding us dinner on Saturday evening, and breakfast on Sunday morning. On our way home we will tour the Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield. Please bring a water bottle, day pack, and cash for lunch at the Jelly Belly Factory. Please be prepared for all types of weather. Please see Joseph Jacobs if you have any questions about this trip.

Fair Oaks Cemetery Service Project

Troop 380 will be participating in a weekend service project at the Fair Oaks Cemetery. Scouts will assist with flag set up and take down of the Avenue of Flags. They will also help with the Services held on Saturday, May 28th. Scouts will also be needed on Monday, May 30th. Please see Elizabeth Ruygt if you have any questions.

Crew 380 Fundraiser at Rubio's Fresh Mexican Grill

Join us on Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Rubio's Fresh Mexican Grill between 2:00 and 9:00 PM. 20% of your check will be donated to Crew 380. Rubio's is located next to Lowe's at 3221 Zinfandel Drive, in Rancho Cordova. See you on Sunday! Lots of us are planning to be there around 5:00 PM.

Malakoff Diggins Camp Out

Troop 380 is headed for Malakoff Diggins State Park for our May 20-22 camp out. Malakoff Diggins is a historic Placer mining operation in the Sierra Nevada, not far from Grass Valley. Michael Kuykendall will be heading up this weekend camping trip. Please fill out a permission slip available on the troop website.

Mandatory Summer Camp Meeting

All Scouts and parents of Scouts attending either of the summer camps, Camp Chawanakee (June 19-25), or Camp Marin Sierra (July 10-16) are required to attend our Summer Camp Preparation Meeting on Monday, May 16, 2011. The meeting will begin at 7:30 PM. We will discuss program, transportation, medicals, and leadership. Please contact Dave if you have any questions.

Capital City District Recognition Dinner

The Capital City District will be hosting its first annual District Recognition Dinner on Saturday, May 7, 2011. The dinner will be held at the LDS Church at 51st and Dover. The dinner will feature the presentation of district adult recognition including the Silver Bear Award. The cost of the dinner is $21.00 for adults and $10.00 for youth. It promises to be a great evening. Dress for the evening is Class A Uniforms. See Chris Ishikawa if you have any questions.

Troop Parent Meeting: Tuesday, April 26, 2011

All Troop 380 parents and adult leaders are encouraged to participate in the monthly Troop Parent Meeting. The meetings are held on the last Tuesday of each month. Parents and leaders gather at the Emmanuel Baptist Church at 7:30 PM on the second floor of the church offices. Please come and be part of the success of Troop 380. Capital City District Spring Camporee

The biggest camping event of the year is coming on april 29-May 1, 2011, at Rancho Seco Park. Join Scouts and Scouters from the Capital City District for our first Spring Camporee. Highlights include patrol competition, a Dutch Oven Cooking Contest, flag retirement ceremony, Order of the Arrow Call Out Ceremony, Scout Interfaith Service, and much more. Sign up at the troop meeting. The permission slip is posted on the website.

Jamie B's Eagle Scout Project

Jamie B's Eagle Scout Project will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the First Covenant Church of Sacramento, in Rancho Cordova. Jamie is presenting a Safety Fair for children. The hours for the fair are 1:00 - 4:00 PM. Please contact Jamie B. for more information.

Skills Camp Out Reschedule for the Indian Grinding Rock Camp Out

Because of the flooding at Camp Pollock we were forced to reschedule the Skills Camp Out. We will now hold the Skills Weekend in conjunction with the Indian Grinding Rock Camp Out on the weekend of April 8-10, 2011. Scouts will also have the opportunity to work on the Indian Lore Merit Badge. Please contact Charles Potter for more information. We will need assistance with transportation on this camp out. Indian Grinding Rock is located near Pine Grove.

Mission Peak Hike

We have rescheduled the Mission Peak Hike for Sunday, April 3, 2011. This Rim of the Bay Hike will take you to the top Mission Peak overlooking the East Bay. Charles Potter will be leading this hike. Free, but bring a lunch, water, and raingear in your favorite day pack. Parents are welcome to hike.

Spring Court of Honor: Monday, March 21, 2011

Come celebrate the beginning of the spring season with Troop 380 at the Spring Court of Honor, on Monday, March 21, 2011. The program begins at 6:30 PM. We will be presenting awards for our winter months. All parents of Scouts and Scouts should attend. We will present awards and recognition for the Klondike Derby, Scout Sunday, Bowling Night, advancement, leadership, and much more. Following the program we will have a cupcake bar. Don't miss the festivities.

Sleepover with the Kings

On Friday, April 1, 2011, Scouts can stay overnight in Power Balance Pavilion (formerly ARCO Arena) after watching the Kings take on the Denver Nuggets. Tickets are now on sale on the Golden Empire Council Website at www.gec-bsa.org. The game will begin at 7:00 PM. After the game scouts can hang out in the massive arena, watch movies on the giant screen, play games in the upper concourse, and take some shots on the court. See Dave for more information.

Skills Camp Out to Welcome New Scouts

On March 19 & 20, 2011, Troop 380 will welcome our newest Scouts at Camp Pollock on our annual Skills Camp Out. This camp out is designed to help our new Scouts make the transition into Boy Scouts. Scouts will arrive on Saturday morning and stay until noon on Sunday. The Skills Camp Out Staff will meet on Friday, March 18th, at Camp Pollock to prepare for the event. Coin Collecting Merit Badge Workshop

The American Numismatic Association is offering a Coin Collecting Merit Badge Workshop at their convention to be held on Saturday, March 19, 2011. The conference will be held at the Sacramento Convention Center. check in begins at 9:30 AM, the workshop will run from 10:00 AM to noon. Parents and Scouts will be admitted free to the convention and workshop. Pre-reqquisites must be completed before attending the workshop. Please get list of requirements from me before attending. Space is limited. You and your parents can also enjoy the collectors exhibits, displays from the U.S. Mint, and the ANA Museum Showcase. Please make sure you pick up a merit badge card from Gary or Floyd before attending.

Order of the Arrow Elections: Monday, February 28, 2011

The Order of the Arrow will be conducting elections for membership into the Brotherhood of Cheerful Service at the Troop Meeting on Monday, February 28, 2011. Scouts who have attained the rank of First Class and have a total of 15 days and nights of camping are eligible for voting into the Order of the Arrow. Included in the 15 days and nights of camping must be a long term camping trip such as summer camp or a high adventure. All candidates must have Scoutmaster approval to be put on the ballot. Candidates will be announced at the Spring Camporee on April 30th, at the evening campfire. Once named a candidate the Scout must complete an Ordeal to seal their membership in the Brotherhood.

Grover Hot Springs Camp Out

Our February Camp Out will be to the remote Sierra Nevada town of Markleeville. We will camp near the Grover Hot Springs State Park. Enjoy the hot springs and go for an icy dip in pool and earn your Order of the Ice Cube. Also on the schedule is a snowshoe hike in Hope Valley. See Floyd Brown for details.
