Mission Peak Hike - April 12

Skills Camp Out - March 28-30
Troop 380's next camp out will be our annual Skills Camp Out at Rancho Seco Park. New Scouts will learn from experienced scouts how to pack, camp, cook, and more at this special outing. Our Canada bound scouts will practice with our canoes. Micheal Kuykendall is in charge of this camp out.
Evan's Eagle Court of Honor
We will honor Evan F. on Monday, March 24 at a special Eagle Scout Court of Honor. Evan will be presented Scouting's highest award at a court of honor at the church at 7:00 PM. Please join us as we congratulate him on this well deserved honor. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
Stockton Thunder Scout Night
Troop 380 will attend the Stockton Thunder hockey team Scout Night on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Stockton Arena. Tickets are $20.00 which includes a ticket to the lower levels seating, a hot dog, drink, patch, and a hat. Can't beat that! This will be a fun night. Scouts wishing to go can be part of the family car pool. Please sign up by the February 24th meeting.
Troop Parent Meeting
Don't forget to attend our monthly Troop Parent Meeting. This is a great opportunity for parents to support our Scouts and troop. We meet at the Atonement Lutheran Church next to the Emmanuel Baptist Church on Kiefer Blvd. The meetings are held on the last Tuesday of each month. The February meeting will be held on February 25th at 7:00 PM. The March 25th meeting will be mandatory for all parents. See you at the meeting!
Klondike Derby
The Capital City District Camporee in the snow, Klondike Derby will be held at Maris Creek Camp Ground on the weekend of February 21-23, 2014. Scouts will take on the snow and other troops in the district in snow activities including sledge and snowshoe races. Please see Charles Potter for more information.
Snow Camp Out
The troop is headed for Donner Summit and the Castle Peak area for a weekend in the snow. Scouts will snowshoe with their backpacks to the Peter Grubb Hut near the summit on the Presidents' Weekend, February 15-17, 2014. Paul Keefer will be leading this trip.
Let's Go Climbing
ASM Paul Keefer will be offering a climbing series on Friday, January 31, 2014 and on Saturday, February 8, 2014. The February 8th session will be held at the Well at California State University. Please see Paul for more information.
Golden Empire Council Recognition Dinner
Please join us at the annual Golden Empire Council Dinner to be held at California State University, Sacramento on Saturday, February 8, 2014. This year Mac Weir will be honored with the presentation of the coveted Silver Beaver Award, the highest honor presented to a volunteer at the council level. The dinner will be held at the CSUS Student Union. Please let Chris know if you would like to attend.
Troop Parent Meeting
All parents are encouraged to attend our monthly meeting of the troop committee. The meetings are held on the last Tuesday of each month. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at 7:00 PM, at the Atonement Lutheran Church (right next door to the Baptist Church).
University of Scouting
Scout leaders should sign up to be at the University of Scouting on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Woodland High School This day long supplemental training has classes for everyone. Sign up at www.gec-bsa.org. Wei Hsieh is arranging for car pools.
Grover Hot Springs Camp Out
The troop will be camping at Grover Hot Springs State Park near Markleeville in Alpine County. Looks like the snow won't be on the ground, but we'll be ready for cold temperatures. We'll do a service project and jump into the hot springs. See you at my house on Saturday morning at 7:00 AM.
Troop Open House
We want to invite any potential new Boy Scouts to our meeting on Monday, January 13, 2014, at 7:00 PM. We encourage parents to attend since we will be presenting an orientation to summer camp. See you at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Christmas Tree Project is Closed

Troop Family Bowling Night
Our annual Family Bowling Night will be on Sunday, December 29, 2013, at 5:00 PM, at Country Club Lanes on Watt Ave. Sign up at the Troop Meeting. Remember all family members are welcome. Cost of the evening is $7.00 for Troop 380 Scouts and $12.00 for adults and guests. Costs include bowling, shoe rental, pizza and soda. It has become one of our favorite Troop 380 evenings out.
Winter Court of Honor - December 9, 2013
Troop 380 will meet at the Rancho Cordova City Hall for its annual Winter Court of Honor on Monday, December 9, 2013. Dinner will be catered by Hickory Hanks Bar B Que. Awards for the Rim of Bay hikes to Mt. St. Helena and Mt. Wittenberg, Webelos Woods staff, merit badge, and rank will be presented. We will also have a Wood Badge Beading presentation. Don't miss this special evening with a special gift who is rumored to be bringing gifts for all good little scouts.
Folsom Adventure - Saturday, December 7, 2013
The troop will try out an urban hike on Saturday, December 7, 2013. Scouts and leaders will take Light Rail to Old Historic Folsom. The troop has arranged for Ice Skating at the turntable. After lunch we'll tour the Old Folsom Powerhouse. A little holiday shopping and back on Light Rail. Just a fun and informative day with the troop.

Capital City District Roundtable: Thursday, November 14, 2013
The November 14th Roundtable will feature Dr. Bruce Ostertag. Dr. Ostertag will be making a presentation entitled "Working with Scouts with Disabilities." Adult leaders should plan on joining us a Roundtable at 7:30 PM, at the LDS Church, at 3001 Wissemann Drive. Class A uniforms please.

Samuel P Taylor State Park Camp Out
Our November adventure will take us to Samuel P Taylor State Park in Marin County. We will travel to the park on November 9-11, 2013, Veteran's Day Weekend. Highlights for the trip include a Rim of the Bay Hike to the top of Mt. Wittenberg at Point Reyes National Seashore, a trip to the Point Reyes National Seashore Lighthouse, and a trip to the ocean. Scouting for Food - Saturday, November 2, 2013
Our annual service project to help those less fortunate will take place on Saturday, November 2, 2013. We will meet at the Rosemont Shopping Center at 8:30 AM until 3:00 PM. We hope to collect two tons of food for the Sacramento Food Bank. Please wear your Class A uniforms. Parents are encouraged to wear uniforms or their Troop 380 Red T-shirts. All parents are encouraged to get involved, it is a great project and you get to help out the community. Other troops have been invited to attend.
Special Halloween Troop Meeting - Monday, October 28, 2013
Our Troop Meetong on Monday, October 28th will have a Halloween theme. Scouts and adults are encouraged to wear a costume. We will give prizes away for best costume scouts, siblings, and adults. We will also have refreshments and games. We will conduct a brief meeting to go over upcoming events, like Scouting for Food, "A Century of Honor," Samuel P Taylor Camp Out, and Eagle Scout projects. If you don't have a costume you can wear your class A uniform. Parents wishing to help out are welcome to bring a dish (appetizer type foods, I think we have plenty of sweets). Happy Haunting!

Webelos Woods Staff Needed
Scouts and adults are asked to help out at the Council's Webelos Woods event at Gibson Ranch on the weekend of October 18-20, 2013. Chris Ishikawa is the chairperson and would like you assistance. Webelos from all over the GEC will be attending this event. Please see Chris if you can help for a half a day, day, or weekend.
Bothe-Napa State Park and Mt. St. Helena Hike
We are headed for Bothe-Napa State Park in the beautiful Napa Valley on October 11-13, 2013. Part of our weekend will feature a hike to the top of Mt. St. Helena, a Rim of the Bay Hike. The view of the Napa Valley is spectacular so don't miss it. Phil Allen is the adult in charge. We also need drivers for the weekend.
New Hogan Reservoir Service Project
Ben Heningburg will be leading a group of scouts and leaders at New Hogan Reservoir on Saturday, October 5, 2013. This service project is being hosted by the Capital City District to support our use of the campground for the Spring Camporee. Lunch will be provided. Please see Ben for more information. We will need transportation to and from the lake.
Trails End Popcorn
Scouts can earn credits for their Scout accounts and help out the council by selling the delicious Trails End Popcorn. You should have received a brochure in the mail from the Golden Empire Council. Please see Naomi Kamine-Mellerski if you have questions or you need more forms.
Camp Pahatsi Weekend - September 20-22, 2013
The troop will travel to Soda Springs for a family weekend at what was Camp Pahatsi on Lake Kilgore. We will take the troop canoes, set up a rifle and shotgun range, go hiking, put on a campfire, and eat some great food. See you on the hill!
Fall Court of Honor
Don't miss the Fall Court of Honor on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 6:30 PM. The Eagle Patrol and the Panther Patrol are asked to bring cookies for refreshments. Awards and recognition will be made for Camp Royaneh, Lost Coast Trip, Golf Night, Merit Badges, Rank, Attendance, and Venturing. Parents are encouraged to attend with their Scouts.
Camp Pahatsi Weekend
Troop 380 is headed for Camp Pahatsi for the weekend of September 20-22, 2013. Pahatsi is located near Soda Springs and was once the location of a Golden Empire Council camp. We will take the canoes, swim, and hike the surrounding area.

The Patrol Leaders' Council just completed our 2014 Program Calendar. We have a year's worth of great activities. Check out the Calendar Tab and see what we have planned. We selected to travel to Central Oregon to Camp Makualla for summer camp. We will also be taking a road trip to canoe in British Columbia. Other highlights include an overnight on the USS Pampanito, Rim of the Bay Hikes, canoe and backpacking trips. Kudos to our PLC!
Yosemite National Park Service Project Weekend
Troop 380 will visit Yosemite National Park during the Labor Day weekend, August 30-September 2, 2013. This four day trip will be part of a service project at one of the most beautiful parks in the world. We will camp at the Yellow Pines campground and complete a service project for the park service on Saturday. Sign ups are limited to a total of 30 campers so sign up early. Jon Traum is heading up this trip.
Eagle Scout Projects
Matthew B., Ian C., and Charlie P. are all planning and executing their Eagle Scout Projects in the next two months. Please support these Scouts as they work toward earning Scouting's highest honor, the rank of Eagle Scout. Please check the calendar for dates as they are announced.
Mini Trek - August 11-13, 2013
Our annual short term backpack trip will take us to Loon Lake and the Desolation Valley Wilderness Area. This will be be a trip for both experienced and beginning backpackers. Scouts will have a choice of several destinations on the trip. Cost is $16.00. Please see Peter Brown for more details.
Lost Coast Backpack Trip - July 27-31, 2013
Troop 380 will take on the Lost Coast Trail on July 27-31, 2013. This remote stretch of Northern California coast will be the site of our next backpack trip. We will also have an overnight stay at Humbolt Redwoods State Park. The permission slip is available on the troop website. The cost is $90.00 which includes; permits, camping fees, food, and t-shirt. Charles Potter will be heading up this trip.
Golf Night: July 8, 2013
Troop 380 will meet at Bradshaw Ranch Golf Center on Monday, July 8, 2013 for a round of golf. Our tee times start at 4:30 PM. The troop will provide hot dogs and chips. The cost a round of golf is $5.00 for Troop 380 members and $8.00 for others. Please bring money for beverages that must be purchased in the club house. We will also have a putting contest, closest to the hole, and driving accuracy contest. We will have a practice clinic at the troop meeting on July 1, 2013 as part of the meeting. We have extra clubs and golf balls for scouts who have never played golf. Please see Joseph Jacobs for details.
Camp Royaneh: June 23-29, 2013
Troop 380 is headed for Camp Royaneh during the week of June 23-29, 2013. Scouts will enjoy horseback riding, handicrafts, COPE course, shooting sports, swimming pool, and much more. Camp Royaneh is owned an operated by the San Francisco Bay Area Council. The camp is located near the town of Cazadero near the Russian River and Pacific Ocean.
Russian River Adventure
We are headed for the Russian River on Saturday, June 22, 2013. We will float down the river and stay the night at Camp Royaneh. Sign up a the Troop Meeting. Scouts attending summer camp can go on the canoe trip or come on Sunday.
River Cats Scout Night
Troop 380 is headed for Raley Field on Saturday, June 1, 2013 for the annual Scout Night. Scouts will be able to participate in the pre-game coaches talk, Scout parade, and watch the fireworks. See you at Raley Field.
Troop Parent Meeting - Rescheduled
The Troop Parent Meeting has been rescheduled for Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at 7:00 PM. The meeting will take place at the Heritage Peak Charter School at 8065 Elk Grove Florin Road. The school is located right behind the Taco Bell at the corner of Elk Grove-Florin Road and Vintage Park Drive. We encourage all parents and leaders to attend these meetings. Pack 380 50th Anniversary Celebration
Pack 380 will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary with a special dinner on Saturday, June 8, 2013. Please see Kim Perry-Reed or Johnie Pennington if you are interested in attending this event. Tickets are $10.00.
Crystal Basin Camp Out
Troop 380 is headed for the Crystal Basin on the weekend of May 31-June 2, 2013. We will camp near Union Valley Reservoir. Scouts will be able to try out their canoeing skills and do some special cooking. Peter Brown and Logan are heading up this camp out.
Fair Oaks Cemetery Service Project
Troop 380 will once again provide service to the Fair Oaks Cemetery on the Memorial Day Weekend. Scouts will help set up the memorial service on Saturday, May 25th. Scouts will also help put up and take down the flags in the cemetery on both Saturday, May 25th and Monday, May 27th. Grayden and Elizabeth will be contacting Scouts who have signed up for the project.
Englebright Lake Canoe and Backpacking Trip
Troop 380 will visit Englebright Lake on May 18-19, 2013. Scouts will have the choice of canoeing or backpacking into the Defiance Point Campground. This will serve as one of the tune up trips for the 2014 British Columbia Road Trip to the Bowron Lakes. Ben Heningburg and Nick I. will be in charge of this trip.
Planning for the British Columbia Road Trip
In 2014 Troop 380 will travel to Bowron Lakes Provincial Park in British Columbia. The Bowron Lakes are located in the Canadian Rockies and provide an approximately 75 mile circuit of lakes and portages. We will visit Seattle, Vancouver, and much more on our trip to this beautiful park.
Camp Cards on the Way
Troop 380 will be participating in the Camp Cards fund raising program. Scouts can earn 50% on each card sold. The cards sell for $5.00 and provide discounts at a number of local businesses. The cards should be available at the April 15th meeting. Please see Michelle Tyler for more information.

The troop will participate in the Capital City District Spring Camporee on the weekend of April 19-21, 2013 at New Hogan Lake. Highlighting this Celtic themed weekend will be the Order of the Arrow Callout Ceremony, patrol competition, flag retirement ceremony, Dutch oven cooking contest, kite design and flying contest, interfaith service and much more. Charles Potter and Matthew Brown will be in charge of our participation. Don't miss the Saturday night campfire and call out ceremonies. All parents are invited to attend the campfire. Permission slips will be available on the website. Fees for food will be determined by each patrol.

Scouts have the opportunity to take advantage of the facilities at the California State University Aquatics Center on Monday, March 25, 2013. Scouts need to have the swimmers classification from summer camp. Scouts are to meet at the CSU Aquatics Center at 8:30 AM. Please have sunscreen, swim wear, sunglasses, towel, and hat. Please see Floyd Brown for more information on this day long event. The cost for the day is $25.00 and scouts must fill out a release. Forms may be downloaded from the Troop Website.

This camp will serve as the new training center and Cub Scout resident camp for our council in the near future. We will host our Skills Camp Out on the weekend of March 22-24, 2013. We have a few new Scouts joining the troop and we will teach them the skills to be a successful Scout. Neil Ishikawa will head up the skills camp out. On Sunday, March 24th we are inviting the parents to attend the Spring Court of Honor at Camp Nauvoo before we return home. The Scouts will prepare lunch at 1:30 PM and will follow with our Spring Awards. Awards and Recognition include University of Scouting, Den Chief Training, Klondike Derby, and Bowling Night, plus leadership, rank and merit badges. This will be a great opportunity to visit the camp and have lunch with the scouts. The troop will be picking up the cost of the lunch, but you must sign up. We will arrange for car pools. The camp is less than 45 minutes from our meeting place.

Klondike Derby
The Capital City District Camporee, Klondike Derby, will take place on the weekend of February 22-24, 2013. We will rendezvous at Martis Creek Lake, near Truckee on a Army of Corp of Engineers site. We have been prepping for over a month for this event and is should be loads of fun. Michael Kuykendall has been getting the troop ready for the competition and snow camping. See you at the Klondike.

Harlem Globetrotter Game - Monday, January 21, 2013
Scouts can participate in the opening ceremony at the Harlem Globetrotter Game on Monday, January 21, 2013, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, at 2:00 PM. Adult leaders and current and potential den chiefs should take part in this all day training hosted by the Golden Empire Council at Edward Harris, Jr. Middle School, on Saturday, January 19, 2013. Adult leaders have an amazing selection of classes to further your knowledge of Scouting and help improve the program for our Scouts. Registration for everyone is on the GEC website. Please see Johnie Pennington about Den Chief Training. The fee for Den Chiefs is $10.00 and adult leaders are $22.00. The fee covers training, lunch and a patch.

Troop 380 will try out their new snow shoes on a hike to Echo Summit, on Sunday, January 13, 2013. This day hike is for those wishing to participate in the Klondike Derby and Snow Camp Outs coming up later this month and next. Family members may participate, but you are responsible for snow shoe rental. Permission Slips are available on this website. The cost will be determined after everyone has signed up. Please see Charles Potter for details. Pack a hearty lunch and bring plenty of water. Don't forget the sunglasses, sunscreen, chapstick and day pack. Be prepared for any kind of weather.

Christmas Tree Recycling Project
Troop 380 will pick up Christmas Trees in the Rosemont and Mather areas during the holiday season. Scouts will deliver fliers announcing how to get your tree picked up on Saturday, December 22, 2012. Trees will be picked up on Saturday, December 29, 2012, and Saturday, January 5, 2013. Please contact Troop 380 at sm-380@comcast.net if you would like more information. The troop will also arrange for e-waste pick up.
Family Bowling Night
Troop 380 will be headed for Country Club Lanes on Thursday, December 27, 2012, at 6:00 PM for their annual Bowling Night. Scouts will bowl for $5.00, parents and siblings bowl for $12.00. The fee includes 2 hours of bowling, shoe rental, pizza, drinks, and a lot of fun. Sign up at the troop meeting by December 17th.
Winter Court of Honor: Monday, December 10, 2012
Our annual Winter Court of Honor will take place on Monday, December 10, 2012, at the Rancho Cordova City Hall, American River Room, at 6:15 PM. Awards and recognition will be presented for Scout Expo, Mt. Wittenberg, Pinnacles, merit badges, rank, Venturing, attendance, and Honor Scout. Santa will be visiting with special gifts for all Scouts who have followed the Scout Oath and Law. Dinner will include chicken, pasta, salad, rolls, drinks, and desserts. Scouts eat for free and adults are $7.00. Siblings are $5.00.
Mt. Wittenberg Hike Postponed - New Date: December 8th
Due to the wet weather we have postponed the Mt. Wittenberg Hike. The new date will be on Saturday, December 8, 2012. This Rim of the Bay Hike is the shortest of the hikes in the series. The fee for the hike is $5.00. Please bring a lunch, water, and cash for the ride home. See Kim Perry-Reed for more information.
Winter Court of Honor: December 10, 2012
The Winter Court of Honor will be held at the Rancho Cordova City Hall (2729 Prospect Park Drive, Rancho Cordova) on Monday, December 10, 2012, at 6:15 PM. The troop invites everyone for dinner. Scouts will eat for free. Siblings under 10 are $5.00 and adults are $7.00. The menu will include chicken, pasta, salad, and rolls. If you plan on attending, please register by the December 3rd Troop Meeting. The evening will feature awards and recognition, dinner, a special guest with a white beard, and a special drawing. This will be a very special evening so don't miss it. If you were a good scout this year you may even receive a gift from our special guest.

Monterey Trip: November 10-12, 2012
Troop 380 will travel to Monterey on the Veteran's Day weekend, November 10-12, 2012. Scouts and adults will have the opportunity to visit the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium. Sign up at the troop meeting.
Troop Open House; November 5, 2012
Troop 380 will host its annual Open House on Monday, November 5th at the Emmanuel Baptist Church. We are inviting all potential Scouts to attend and find out about our program. The program will begin at 6:30 PM.
Scouting for Food: November 3, 2012
Scouting for Food will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012. This is our annual community service project in which we collect non-perishable foods. We ask that all family members get involved. We will begin at 8:30 AM at the Save Mart Shopping Center and work until 3:30 PM. This is a great opportunity to help those less fortunate.
Angel Island Trip: October 13-14, 2012
Our October camp out will take the troop to Angel Island in San Francisco Bay. Scouts have the option of riding their bikes or hiking to the service camp. Angel Island is rich in history, considered the Ellis Island of the West Coast, this one time military fort and immigration station is not a state park. We will trailer our bikes and backpacks to the town of Tiburon and ride a ferry to the island. We will perform a service project and hike the island. There are spectacular views of San Francisco and the bay area cities. The cost for the trip is $20.00 which include the ferry ride to the island and food. Permission slips are available on the troop website on the download page.
E-Waste Project
Troop 380 has partnered with EWaste for Good to help the environment and earn money for the Troop. This company will pick up E-waste and give a credit to our troop. Just go on line and make sure you click Boy Scout Troop 380 to help out the troop. The website is at http://ewaste4good.com.
Magazine Sale in Progress
Our annual Magazine Sale in now in progress. Scouts earn 50% of their total sales. Scouts will receive credits to their Scout Accounts to be use for summer camp, National Jamboree, or future high adventures. The deadline for sales is September 24, 2012.

Leader Specific Training: August 25, 2012
Adults wishing to get an introductory training class on the Scouting program should sign up for Leader Specifc Training on Saturday, August 25, 2012. The course will be held at the LDS Church on Wisseman Drive, from 8:00 to 5:00 PM. This course is for potential assistant scoutmasters, committee members, and other leaders who want to help the troop grow and be successful. Registration is on line at www.gec-bsa.org. There is no cost for the training, but you should bring a lunch. Uniforms are encouraged. Contact Sharon Jonas if you have any questions.
Mother and Scout Raft Trip: August 18, 2012
Okay mothers of Scouts, its time to get wet on the American River. Troop 380 Scouts and their mother, grandmother, aunt, or significant female adult are invited to participate in the annual raft trip down the river. Troop 380 has made arrangements to rent rafts and will float from Sunrise to River Bend Park. Sign up as soon as possible to reserve your spot. See Sherri and Peter Brown for details.
SMUD Picnic: August 11, 2012
Troop 380 has been asked to help host the SMUD Employee Association Picnic at Rancho Seco Park on Saturday, August 11, 2012. The Troop will provide set up,food, drinks, cooks, music, game operations, parking lot supervision, break down and clean up at the annual event. Scouts and parents are encouraged to participate and earn credits for their Scout Accounts. Workers should arrive by 8:00 AM. Clean up and events will end at 5:00 PM. All scouts and adults should wear a red Troop 380 t-shirt. See you at Rancho Seco.
Mini Trek - August 3-5, 2012
Our annual mini-trek will be held on the weekend of August 3-5, 2012 on the Pacific Crest Trail. Scouts will hike from near Donner Summit to Barker Pass. This is a great way to start your backpacking experience if you are a new or inexperienced backpacker. Jon Traum is leading the hike and is a great backpacker and you'll learn a lot. There are some great views of the Sierra Nevada from the PCT, including Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake, Devil's Peak, Squaw Valley and much more. Don't miss this opportunity. See Jon Traum for more details.
